Obesity needs to be taken seriously both at an individual level and at a population level.

Puritanical preaching is unhelpful and fatter people do not eat more than thin

Obesity is a chronic illness and needs to be considered, cared for and treated as such-this may mean life long medication, bariatric surgery, blocking the absorption of fat. It should be a main line NHS service and not left to the Private sector.

At a population level Prevention

Primary-Breast feeding, Child Care,Education

Secondary-Monitor, advise, intervene early

Tertiary-Established and funded health care

Quarternary-Catering for fat people in society

Education…Information…….Propaganda

Financial incentive….Taxation

Technology of food, medical advances

Legislation……individual freedoms versus collective benefit
