The Moscow State University was responsible for sample design, instrument translation, and data collection. Interviews were conducted by telephone, based on a probability sample provided by the City of Moscow Telephone Ministry. Dimensions of the Moscow health profile included health-related quality of life (HRQOL), life choices, life chances, and characteristics of the civic community. HRQOL was measured by life happiness, life satisfaction, self-rated health status, and the Alameda County Physical Health Profile. Life choices were measured by a set of personal health practices, such as bodyweight, physical activities, and alcohol consumption. Life chances at the individual level included education, and at the urban level, inequity in the distribution of social status in urban areas and inequality in access to material resources. Civic community was measured by social cohesion, social support, and social capital.
