A recent survey of 60 African libraries showed:
- 23 (38%) had e-mail access.
- 19 (32%) had Internet access (usually 1 PC for 800 students).

Out of 87 Medical Doctors in Zimbabwe:
43 (49%) owned a PC but only 16 (18%) used the Internet.

One reason for the under use of the Internet in Africa is surely the high costs of access, which is in many countries far beyond the reach of even well employed professionals.
