Epidemiology: In Britain the virus is present in 10% of herds; 4% of total animals. Clinical disease is rare. Transmission is favoured by batch- mixing of milk and pooling colostrum.

Control: Separate kids from virus positive mother at birth. Give mother's colostrum, pretreated 560C 1hr to kill virus, and rear on artificial milk after that. The VM test can be used to remove antibody +ve stock.
