Structure:

- The intact virus is 25nm in diameter and is composed of RNA and 12 capsid pentons (capsomeres), one at each vertex.

- Each penton contains 5 subunits.

- Each subunit is composed of 1 molecule of VPs 1, 2, 3 and 4. Each virus therefore has 60 molecules of each protein.

VP1 protudes for attachment to its heparan sulphate receptor and carries the protective immunogens.
