Timing of vaccination: In the UK, the Jockey Club insists that any horse must have been certified as having completed a vaccination course at least 10 days before racing. This has probably prevented any recent outbreaks of clinical equine influenza virus in the UK. The course consists of a primary inoculation followed by a second inoculation 21-92 days later. The third inoculation is given after a further 150-215 days. Boosters are then annual. If one booster is missed the whole vaccination programme must be repeated.
