This slide and the next two compare the Panel Study in Income Dynamics’ (PSID) data and MCHP’s data (a pdf version of this table is available here):

-Start dates are close: 1968 for PSID and 1970 for the Registry

-High levels of follow-up exist in both sets of data

-Manitoba health’s data are updated more frequently – every six months:

new enrollees are added and reasons for terminations are given

-Important differences or similarities:

- Number of cases for population based data is much larger

- Cost is considerably lower for administrative data

- PSID samples; MCHP includes an entire population

- Cost for studies with population data do not necessarily go up greatly when the research becomes more complex

- MCHP data does require validation when linking new sources of data
