- Intima media thickness of the common carotid artery and the internal carotid artery is associated with the risk of stroke and myocardial infarctioni n asymptomatic older adults ( more than 65 years old) . The relative risk of stroke and myocardial infarction between the lowest and the highest thickness is 3,87 (Cardiovascular Health Study ), within median follow up period of 6,2 years.(8)
