It is important to have a standard approach to conducting hazard analyses.  Although the approach can be improved, if you constantly employ different methods in each analysis you conduct, it will be very difficult to compare results over time and to identify trends.  The model for this presentation is a simple one:

[1]  identify possible hazards
[2]  characterize each hazard (in other words define its parameters)
[3]  apply a rating or assessment scheme to arrive as a basis for comparison with other hazards
[4]  communicate the results
