Alphabetical order is often used to organize numeric information for many different variables or cases. For example, the daily stock market report listing high, low, opening and closing prices for hundreds of stocks is organized in alphabetical order. Most people learn to look up information in alphabetical order in elementary school, and the method needs little or no explanation to convey the basis on which it is organized, facilitating self-guided look-up of information.
