FH is caused by a large variety of different LDL receptor mutations. So-called null alleles (mRNA-) associate with mutations that deteriorate lipid profile more severe than other mutations. Moreover, carriers of null alleles had significantly more often tendon xanthomas compared to the carriers of other types of mutations.
