In all first degree relatives (n=855) of 113 FH patients, we analyzed the effect of age, gender, the presence of additional risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and the type of mutation on the burden of the disorder. The cardiologist used to be the largest supplier of patients in old studies. The present routine measurements of fasting serum total cholesterol yields also patients without onset of symptoms of cardiovascular disease.
