Dr. Hawkins is a principal with Epidemiology International with 10 years of research experience in perinatal and reproductive epidemiology. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Department of Population and Family Health Sciences. Prior to joining Epidemiology International, Dr. Hawkins directed the grant writing endeavors of Sterilex Corporation as a Senior Research Scientist.
Dr. Hawkins has experience in the design, conduct, collaboration and analyses on a variety of investigations related to women, fetal, infant, and child health with particular interest in applied longitudinal data study design and analyses. Her research interests focus on the social, psychosocial and biomedical risk factors that may influence perinatal outcomes, including the intersection between women's health prior to pregnancy and outcomes of pregnancy. Her work has been recognized through publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international meetings.
Dr. Hawkins completed academic training at Emory University with a degree in Medical Anthropology, and then worked for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, which sparked an interest in Public Health. She earned a master's and doctoral degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2000.
