The teams provide critical care expertise to manage “stabilized” patients en route to further definitive care. They fly with an aeromedical evacuation crew when requested. There are AD, reserve and guard teams. Currently a goal has been set of 210 teams but only 140 are staffed. Between 12 and 15 teams operate in theate at a time. There are 4 teams assigned to the special operations command.
