The available evidence shows that exposure to specific allergens (e.g. house dust mite) is associated with specific sensitization, but not with overall levels of sensitization or asthma.

It thus appears that in susceptible individuals, the local exposures determine what we become sensitized to, but have little effect on our risk of sensitization in general, or of asthma
