Certain adjustments for fish consumption or for ADI/RfD used were perhaps already made for several tolerance limits or MRLs listed in Tables 1A, 1B, and 1C. This may explain partially why the tolerance values used in some regions are so different from those used in others. In addition to the various types of residue tolerance limits discussed earlier, U.S. EPA (1995) developed a set of screening values as threshold levels for the more prominent POCs, with the intent to provoke more intensive specific-site residue monitoring. Using a more updated consumption rate for subsistence fishers along with newer toxicity data, U.S. EPA (2000a) later updated these values. This type of screening values can also be used to provide a rough human risk analysis. Such use was demonstrated and discussed extensively in Part II.
