The foundations of our research are two T1D registries. One registry is based on the CHP diabetes clinics and includes all cases seen at CHP within one year of diagnosis who were less than 17 years of age at diagnosis.

The second registry includes all newly diagnosed T1D cases (<20 years of age) in Allegheny County, PA since 1965. Most cases are diagnosed at CHP – but this registry includes children diagnosed at the other hospitals in Allegheny County. We use this registry to determine the incidence and characterize the descriptive epidemiology of T1D since it is unbiased.
