Clearly, methamphetamine abuse is a serious problem in the US and around the world, however methamphetamine can be effectively used for medical purposes. The majority of scientific publications on methamphetamines concentrate on negative aspects of methamphetamine abuse. As scientists, we need to explore the full spectrum of methamphetamine use. According to CRISP database, 171 projects on amphetamines have been funded by NIH. For comparison, 732 projects have been funded in the area of cocaine. Given the highly addictive nature of methamphetamines and ease of access to such drugs, more projects need to investigate methamphetamines.
