Understanding residents’ use of nursing home (personal care home) services is particularly important given the increase in the number of people over 65 years of age and their increasing longevity.

Analyses might address the following questions:

1. How does the proportion of elderly persons compare to other regions?

2. Do local facilities reflect the present needs of the population?

3. Looking at population pyramids, will current local facilities meet future (e.g. in the next 10 years) needs?

4. How do waiting times for admission to nursing homes compare to those elsewhere? Are variations due to differences in number of beds, criteria for placement, admission processes, or other factors?
