Overall the media reported the outbreak and control measures in a fair manner, except for an isolated incident with a channel trying to take the side of a small group of disgruntled parents.
It is helpful to:
- inform media up front
- Return their calls, make a spokes person available to talk to them.
- Provide well reasoned information, and rely on recognized sources with high credibility (e.g. National CDC, State Health department, prominent local infectious disease specialists).
- Find clear, evocative answers to justify vaccination (prevent future infection and is a prudent and conservative measure).
- Be polite and to the point.
