In subjects with elevated level of C-Reactive Protein in the top quartile the risk of myocardial infarction is increased some 4 fold. Aspirin is much greater benefit in those with high levels of C-Reactive protein in which the protection is around 60% compared with those at low levels of C-Reactive protein where protection is insignificant. This may suggest that aspirin could have an anti-inflammatory as well antiplatelet role.
