In the HOT study a calcium channels blockers was used in both diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. In nondiabetic subjects there was no significant differences in cardiovascular events between the groups. Among patients with diabetes however the additional blood pressure lowering in the 80 mm of mercury target group produced a significant reduction in risk for major cardiovascular events.
