C-reactive protein concentrations in the top total of distribution were able to predict cardiovascular mortality over a period of six years (over up to 15 years in some other studies). This source of follow-up studies imply that inflammation as evidenced by circulating concentrations of C-reactive protein not only reflect the vulnerable plague but also may play a role in the earlier development of atherotrombotic disease.
