In terms of reversibility, the meta-analysis of treatment intervention studies by McMahon and Collins suggests that, of the 25% increase in coronary heart disease risk consequent upon 6mmHg rise in diastolic blood pressure, around 14% of this is reversed by anti-hypertensive therapy lowering usual diastolic blood pressure by the same amount. More recent meta-analyses have increased this benefit to around 17%.
