The National Immunization Survey (NIS), implemented by CDC’s National Immunization Program and National Center for Health Statistics in 1994, has been described as the “backbone of the immunization assessment system”.(13) The target population of the NIS is children 19-35 months living in US households (non-institutionalized). Coverage estimates provide up-to-date coverage rates for seven vaccines and are published annually by CDC.
