Partial seizures : are characterized by abnormal electrical activity involving only a small part of the brain . Sometimes a partial seizure can spread to the whole brain (secondary generalized seizure ) .
There is a classification of partial seizures into simple and complex according to the degree of disturbance of consciousness .
Simple partial seizures : produce no alteration of consciousness despite clinical manifestations which may include sensory, motor, or autonomic activity .
Complex partial seizures : may produce similar sensory, motor, or autonomic activity , but are also characterized by some impairment or alteration of consciousness during the event .
