HIV has been found in saliva, tears, urine and bronchial secretions, however, no reports have been received documenting infection via these routes.

Scientists and medical authorities agree that HIV does not survive well in the environment, making the possibility of environmental transmission remote--- essentially zero. If HIV were being transmitted through routes such as through air, water, or insects, the pattern of reported AIDS cases would be much different from what has been observed (CDC, July, 1999).

HIV transmission can be greatly facilitated by the presence of another STD. This is especially true of STDs which present ulcerative lesions.
