Novosibirsk region is an administrative unit of Russia. The most of its territory is situated on West-Siberian plain. And only in the eastern part of it one can see some mountains. The main river is Ob. Annual precipitation - 300-450 mm. Annual mean air temperature - 0 C. Novosibirsk City is a large industrial center on the bank of Ob-river and Ob artificial sea.

In 1989 (last census at region) the population of the Novosibirsk area was 2 778 724 and 645 355 of them - under 15 years of age. Novosibirsk City population in 1989 was 1 435 889, under 15 years - 305 508. The most of population is Russians (93%).
