There can be potentially many threats to safety and security of field volunteers. NGOs responding to disasters and humanitarian crises may adopt a policy of no armaments or adopt an armed security policy. Security may be sourced locally-perhaps through a deal with local insurgents, or through the use of professional security agencies. Occasionally, the military may co-deploy with NGOs and provide this security.
