PPARalpha and PPARgamma play a key role in type 2 diabetes and in lipid metabolism. Activated PPARalpha mainly stimulates fatty acid catabolism in the liver by inducing the expression of genes controlling the beta-oxidation. While activated PPAR-gamma promotes lipid storage in adipose tissue by inducing the expression of lipogenic genes and adipocyte differentiation.
