Shown are the results from cross-sectional population surveys on the awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension, with control defined as <160/95 mm Hg. The insert shows comparable data for the USA and England, with control defined as <140/90 mm Hg. Despite the high awareness of hypertension, many patients remain untreated and an even greater proportion is poorly controlled.
