Epidemiology has some hidden strengths to complement its more obvious ones. In providing a set of methods for identifying and confronting threats to our collective health and safety, epidemiologists firmly belong at the forefront of public health training. However, epidemiology can also enhance our general education in ways that Fraser so eloquently expounded in the New England Journal of Medicine.
