The graph showing world population growth over time reveals that for all of pre-history and most of our history, this growth has been remarkably slow. But in the eighteenth century population growth took off. The world experienced a population explosion. For example, in 1800 the world had 1 billion people and by the end of the 20th century the population had reached 6 billion.
