Monocyte beads (CD14) are 0.56 mm in diameter and therefore can be
differentiated from the CD4 1 beads which are 1.0 mm in diameter. The total count is achieved by adding up all lymphocytes that meet this criterion and multiplying the sum of both chambers by 7.3 for CD4 1 and 6.2 for CD8 1
lymphocytes. Samples were run in triplicate for both T-lymphocyte populations, and the means of the three trials were multiplied by the proper conversion factors, as determined by the manufacturer, in order to obtain the absolute counts.
