Body size should be charted by BMI for age

Assess diet of entire family

Match energy intake with energy needs for normal growth & development

Maintain a healthy weight;  advocate consumption of more vegetables and fruits to replace fat calories, not processed foods.

Fat intake unrestricted to 2 years of age but limited saturated fats, calories cholesterol, trans fats, and sugar thereafter

Limit salt intake to <6 grams per day

Remove high calorie or processed foods from the home and decreasing the number of fast food meals eaten helps.
