A conceptual set of integration principles needs to been produced to address the issues of hardware, software, data definitions, reference tables, compatibility of the data definitions with those of the National Health Data Dictionary, data entry, data transfer, security and confidentiality. These should based on best practice principles and could drawn on the experience of other recently redeveloped data bases.

Any new standards should be internally disseminated for other to consider during the development or redevelopment of new public health databases to ensure compatibility and consistency.
