As the ovarian follicles increase in size, they produce the hormone estrogen which 1/ causes behavioral estrus (sexual activity and receptivity). 2/ stimulates uterine muscle tone, which aids sperm transport following mating, 3/ stimulates muscle of oviducts, which assists sperm transport and ovum/embryo transport and 4/ induces the preovulatory surge of LH which is a positive feedback.
