This chart shows the relationship between the wealth of 177 countries and their child survival to age 5. The size of the circle represents the population of the country. Child survival to age 5 improves with increasing gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. However, at any given level of GDP per capita, there are large variations in child survival. This indicates that countries differ in important ways in their approaches to maximizing the health of their people. Other evidence shows that one of these ways concerns their policy towards organizing and developing health systems.
