We will take as example the PMAIL list (Pegasus Mail Discussion List at the University of Alabama LISTSERVER), whose address is pmail@ua1vm.ua.edu.

The LISTSERVER address for PMAIL is: listserv@ua1vm.ua.edu.

Now we must send a subscription order. Usually the order accepted by any LISTSERVER is:

SUBSCRIBE [name of list] [variable portion]

where pmail take the place of [name of list] in our case... And depending on the type of LISTSERVER, the personal name or personal e-mail address may take the place of [variable portion] (look at the next slides) or ignore this [variable portion].

If a message with the text HELP is sent to the LISTSERVER (no matter the case); a list with an explanation for the available orders accepted by the LISTSERVER and the correct way to use them will be sent back to you...
