One must clearly appreciate who the study population is and what their key socio-demographic characteristics are. Census data can be very helpful in this regard, but direct knowledge of the study population, through citizens groups etc., will help in understanding the complexity of the problems. Many issues, other than health, may have bearing on any study, and appreciating the community’s concerns is paramount.
