Live attenuated virus vaccine for WEEV, EEEV and VEEV subtypes IE & IIIA is available and far advanced over some other vaccines since it is chaemeric. A chaemera is build with the genes of several viruses. This one includes cDNAs coding for infectious WEE and VEE IE, cDNAs coding for the structural proteins of VEE IIIA, attenuating mutations of WEE and VEE IE, and attenuated chimeric alphaviruses.
