There are no current treatment modalities available though telemedicine. Information about preventive medicine therapies are available, but not the therapy itself. Much has been written about telesurgery, however there do not appear to be any near-term implementations for telemedicine in general or for tele-preventive medicine in specific. Although the current telesurgical systems are capable of remote surgery, too many issues about the reliability of the telecommunications infrastructure upon which the telesurgery devices depend remain unresolved. In addition, non-technical issues, such as social acceptance, cost/benefit advantages, or actual type of healthcare system that would employ such devices, have not even addressed the possibility of using telesurgical systems. Thus, the provision of tele-preventive health will be involved collecting, analyzing and distributing information rather than the therapy itself. However, information about prevention is more powerful than providing treatment after the fact.

Strategic planning frequently involves scenario building based upon known technologies and extrapolation to potential benefits, exploring resources required, likelihood of success and consequences (both intended and unintended) of implementation of the technologies.
