The use of ITBN was shown to reduce morbidity from malaria among children living in a range of endemicities (Alonso et al. 1991; Nevill et al. 1996; Binka et al. 1996), and in pregnant women in semi-endemic areas including The Gambia (Dolan et al. 1993; D’Alessandro et al. 1996). However, no impact of these ITBN was seen in pregnant women living in intense and seasonal malaria transmission areas on maternal anemia, peripheral parasitemia or LBW (Browne 1997; Shulman et al. 1998).
