GIS is being used in other areas of Public Health.

Because these systems can store vast amounts of data in databases that can be integrated with mapping software, they have the capability to provide timely information that can be used to track epidemics, changes in the population, effectiveness of funded programs in meeting the needs of the communities they serve.

GIS provides an additional tool Public Health practitioners can use to study disease, plan, implement and evaluate programs, as well as track trends and patterns of social change.

The US Census will be using GIS to help in redistricting the US with Census 2000 data. This can have an impact on how Public Health programs will be funded in the future.
