The live vaccine, AnavacŪ is available through Poultry Health Laboratories, in Davis, California. It is shipped on dry ice or in liquid nitrogen. It costs $3.00 per dose plus shipping. The killed vaccine is available through California Woolgrowers Association. It costs $6.50 per dose and is shipped via normal refrigeration.

The protection is only against the anemia that causes disease signs.

Cattle immunized with the tick cell culture-derived A. marginale had a significantly lower percent reduction in the PCV after challenge as compared with the controls.
