The capsid proteins form a T=4 icosahedral nucleocapsid.
They are arranged into distinct pentameric and hexameric capsomeres on the exterior of the nucleocapsid. The envelope and nucleocapsid structures are separated by a lipid bilayer interact through specific one-to-one interactions between the capsid protein and the tail of the E2 glycoprotein.
