The immediate impact on people infected with tuberculosis is twofold, first the physical cost of the disease and secondly the social cost. Tuberculosis is still thought of as a disease associated with poverty, linked closely to the lower social and economic strata of the population. The program treatment has become more complicated because people won’t voluntarily admit that they are infected by tuberculosis for fear of being excluded from their social and economic life. This is worsened by the fact that they need a rather long treatment time to be cured, not to mention the boredom of taking the medication for that long period of time. Many people cannot afford the cost of medication and prolonged treatment or to be out of work while recuperating when under treatment.
