The BES methods comprised two activities: interviews and medical examination. The representativeness of the findings was strengthened by observations of the type of house in each district, in particular, the type of ventilation in the house.
Overall, the findings of this study suggest that attention needs to be given to ensuring that there is better understanding of the importance of the relationship between environmental factors and the transmission of the disease. Therefore, it is entirely appropriate to include consideration of environmental determinants in the strategies of TB control program activities in each district. Health services planners, especially the TB programmer should take note of the study findings in future health program activities aimed at reducing the incidence of this disease.
