In 1990, due to increased awareness following the cancellation of a successful program, global agitation and global commitments, the program was started again.
Results:
1996, VA levels increased from 1990 levels
Guatemala now defined as a country with  moderate rather than severe VAD problem
Other Latin American countries followed: Honduras, El-Salvador Ecuador, Bolivia
