Iron absorption is limited at best. It depends on the presence of inhibitors and promoters of iron absorption. Vitamin C is a very strong promoter.

Phytates ( in cereals and seeds), inhibit intake.

To improve iron absorption when consuming iron rich foods, decrease intake of high fiber, high phytate and high polyphenol foods such as tea coffee chocolate and herbal tea.

Also, separate calcium rich from iron rich meals.
